Congratulations
A few of our students are traveling to Atlanta, GA this weekend for their
first Batizado in Capoeira Regional, with Mestre Fran from the Grupo
Maculele. Their hard work and consistent training has prepared them to
receive their first Cord in this system. Because Claudia will be with
them, there will be no Capoeira classes this Friday or Sunday.
Upcoming Events
In-school Chess Night
April 1, 2004 - 6:30-8:30 PM (Tonight!)
Our last chess night was a blast, some students stayed until nearly 11:30
PM, playing for hours. This was an exciting way to get to know the other
students and exercise certain cognitive skills that are common in both
chess and the Martial Arts.
One of the most important aspects of a Martial Artist is the ability to
think tactically, strategically, and to anticipate the intention of their
opponent. For this reason, I have made it a requirement that every student
learn how to play the game of chess, which has been used to educate
military minds, warriors and leaders for centuries. Join us for an evening
of intellectual stimulation. For beginners, the rules of the game will be
discussed and coached by Jason Lippert (an avid and rated chess player),
our resident Chess Coach, and skill will be developed through practice
games with more experienced students.
The cost is $5 for the evening and will include refreshments for those
participating. Bring your favorite chess set and a buddy - See you there!

Letha Yoga Dhanda Yoga Seminar with Dr. Maung Gyi
May 1 & 2, 2004
Dr. Gyi is one of the most sought after Martial Arts experts in the world
today. Noted for his systematic teaching style, extensive Martial Arts and
Healing knowledge and explosive skill, Dr. Gyi is a remarkable instructor.
Letha Yoga: This popular partner based system of Yoga was developed by the
Hpyu monks in ancient Northern Burma, and functions as an effective natural
method for maintaining a healthy body. Composed of postures, joint
manipulations and massage technique, the system helps to remove toxins,
improve flexibility and increase blood flow, allowing the body to
recuperate from hard physical training. It is a great experience that
leaves everyone feeling re-energized. If natural healing is an interest,
you will definitely want to attend. Participants need only to come freshly
showered with loose fitting clean clothing, our training will be barefoot
with clean socks, a notebook is recommended, pillow and blanket are
optional. Attendees of previous seminars should bring their stones.
Dhanda Yoga: A system of solo and partner based practice, this form of Yoga
involves the use of a staff to assist proper alignment and posture.
Students will learn of the three different forms of Dhanda Yoga as well as
the history and origin of this practice.
