Shake it off and step up

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a large well. For hours, the
farmer tried to figure out what to do.

Finally he decided the animal was old and the well needed to be covered up
anyway; it just wasn't worth the effort to retrieve the donkey. He invited
his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and
began to shovel dirt into the well.

At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then,
to everyone's amazement, he quieted down. A few shovel loads later, the
farmer finally looked down the well and was astonished at what he saw.

With every shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something
amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up. As the farmer's
neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it
off and step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up
over the well and trotted off!

The Moral of the Story

Life is going to shovel dirt on you all kinds of dirt. The trick to
getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our
troubles is a steppingstone. Sometimes we can’t get to class as often as
we want, sometimes progress comes more slowly than we’d like. The key is
to never give up! Shake it off and take a step up!

This Weekend - Saturday 11 AM - 3 PM
Maharlika Kuntaw Seminar with Guro Brian “Buzz” Smith

Perhaps our biggest seminar this year, we are bringing Guro Smith from
Michigan to Milwaukee for the first time ever. Join us for a day of
training in this powerful Martial Art. Seminar runs from 11 AM - 3 PM and
only costs $45. (Kids get in for $30) Regular classes will be canceled

Kuntaw is a Martial Art that was developed in the Philippines. Fighting
skills were "borrowed" from the many cultures that arrived in the
Philippines by migration or invasion and were organized into a viable
fighting system. This fighting system, known as Maharlika Kuntaw, handles
the three ranges of battle: Largo (long); Sumbrada (short); and Hubud
(close) ranges as well as the three altitudes of fighting: air, standing
and ground.

Students attending should bring sticks, training daggers, training shoes,
lathis or staves as well. For more information visit our website:
