Wisconsin Martial Arts Camp
The time is almost here, once again, for our annual Wisconsin Martial Arts
Camp with Sifu Rick Faye of the Minnesota Kali Group. Many of our students
have attended one or more camps, and can attest to the effect it has had on
their skills and their commitment to training. The Pre-registration
deadline for the camp is July 4, 2005. Students can qualify for the
advanced rate with a $50 deposit by that date. The cost of the camp is
$375 for now campers, $345 for returning and pre-registered campers, and
includes room (dorm- style cabins) and food for the weekend.
The camp runs from Saturday thru Tuesday. We typically car pool for the
drive, the event is held in Cable, WI at Lake Owen Camp. For more
information, contact Mr. Sell asap.
Aug-2005 (Date TBA)
Dhanda Yoga Seminar with Dr. Maung Gyi
Our students were recently invited to participate in another Dr. Gyi
seminar, when he once again returns to Milwaukee this August. Those who
attended his last seminar in May can tell you about the amount of
information we cover in the space of a weekend. The specific date has yet
to be determined, however the seminar will happen in August, details will
be posted on our website as soon as we received them. The focus of this
seminar will be Dhanda Yoga.
Brazilian Jiujitsu Classes
Students are encouraged to stop in to see our Brazilian Jiujitsu classes on
Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. This is an excellent system for
beginners, for its technical approach to an often intimidating area of
training. Students interested in participating in these classes should
contact Mr. Sell to get set up with a uniform, belt and mouthguard.
Kill Bill Replica Swords now available
For a limited time, students can purchase replica swords (Katanas) from the
Tarantino film "Kill Bill." These include Bill's sword and the Bride's
sword. For replicas these are very elegant and include a stand with each
sword. Now through July 15, the cost of these are $60 each or $100 for
both. These are stainless steel, sharp blades, and will not be sold to
minors without parent permission. These blades would look excellent in
anyone's home.
Private Lessons are now available
With the camp fast approaching, now is a perfect time to take a few private
lessons with your favorite instructors on a topic of your choice. Our
staff of instructors are available to all students for private lessons on a
number of topics, including Striking Arts, Grappling Arts, Healing Arts,
Capoeira, Weapons Training, Fitness and Attribute Development.
Each session is between one hour and an hour and a half long and the rates
for these start at $25. Anyone interested in a private lesson can contact
the respective instructor via our Student Messenger Service on our website:
http://www.sageartsstudio.com/about/messenger.html
Below are some descriptions of our instructors and their respective areas
of expertise:
Anthony Sell - Mr. Sell has over 17 years of experience in the Martial Arts
and has studied many different systems of fighting. He is a Level 2
Instructor under Sifu Rick Faye of the Minnesota Kali Group and worked as a
personal fitness trainer for over five years. He brings a great deal of
insight to his classed including history, tactic, psychology and
physiology. Mr. Sell will work with students to assess their strengths and
needs as Martial Artists, and show them ways to make this information their
own.
Paul Boyajian - Mr. Boyajian is a Level 1 instructor under Sifu Rick Faye
and has been in the Martial Arts since the early 80's. He brings
no-nonsense training methods to his students and helps them gain a better
understanding of how to adjust techniques to fit their physical ability and
interest. Paul has also offered to video tape sessions so students can get
a chance to review their performance and identify flaws and strengths in
their movement. This is a great chance to see just how well you're really
doing.
Kari Post - Kari is a professional Massage Therapist as well as an avid
student of the Healing Arts and brings a great deal of insight to students
regarding Martial Arts related injuries, Letha Yoga, Dhanda Yoga and other
related methods. She is available by appointment.
Harrison Schultz - Harrison has worked hard over the past two years to
support the Capoeira community in Milwaukee and the Midwest US, and has
brought to our students a high degree of skill, insight and commitment to
their development. He will work with students to help them understand the
complex dynamics of Capoeira and how to progress their ability in this system.
Regi Bron - Regi is our resident "Jack-of-all-trades" with a background in
Chinese, Filipino, African, Brazilian, and other Martial Arts traditions,
he demonstrates a great passion for the Martial Arts, and can help students
add a level of finesse to their movement, drawing insight from a variety of
training methods.
Special Thanks
This month, we would like to publicly thank Jason Lippert for his six years
of service as a staff instructor at Sage. In that time he brought a level
of focus and discipline to our grappling program that has helped us all
excel. Jason determined a year ago that he would move on to pursue his own
training in both Judo and Brazilian Jiujitsu. Though he will be in class
from time to time to roll with us, he has handed the teaching off to Paul
Boyajian and Anthony Sell. We look forward to sharing our insights in the
grappling arts, maintaining the same standards of presentation and
development.
