New Resource Offers Plain-Language Information on Assessment and Treatment

The Schizophrenia Society of Canada (SSC) is pleased to announce a new resource that provides consumers and family members with plain-language information on the clinical treatment of schizophrenia.

Schizophrenia: A Journey to Recovery -- A Consumer and Family Guide to Assessment and Treatment was produced through a partnership between the SSC and the Canadian Psychiatric Association (CPA).  The project adapted the CPA's Clinical Guidelines for the Treatment of Schizophrenia into a user-friendly format to assist consumers and families as they navigate their way through assessment and treatment of the illness.

New effective and efficient treatments and health services continue to be developed for individuals living with schizophrenia and psychosis, their families, and their supporters. 

The Schizophrenia Society of Nova Scotia is determined to be knowledgeable on all of these new treatments and services and we provide support and assistance to individuals living with schizophrenia and psychosis, their families and supporters, and related organizations.

Collaboration is essential with government agencies, health service providers, community-based non-profit organizations, and private business in educating and disseminating the most current information and knowledge about schizophrenia and psychosis. 

The Schizophrenia Society of Nova Scotia establishes and maintains contacts with the district health authorities, government departments, medical professionals, and social assistance groups to have the best information available for use.  The Schizophrenia Society of Nova Scotia also develops and delivers programs to assist in educating groups and disseminating information (see the webpage on our Strengthening Families Together Program by clicking here).
